Elliot Shoenman's comedic drama about a widow trying to help her children, and herself, deal with the mess her husband left behind when he jumped into the Hudson River. The play is based on Elliot's book, Nobody's Business, which is the story of his search for information about his father, who committed suicide in New York in 1964; and it's the playwright's hope that this play will be helpful to people who have experienced this kind of loss. The question posed by the play is: who is the victim, the person who commits suicide, or the survivors — or is the answer "everyone"?.

Reviews

"The past is very much prologue in AfterMath...brought to messy, vibrant life under Mark L. Taylor's confident direction. The full-throttle Potts delivers plenty of fireworks, although the actress compels most when quiet, evoking deeper responses...At the end of this fast-moving 80 minutes, you'll feel you've been through all the stages of grief. And emerge, moved, on the side of life."

- L.A. Times

"Unflinching honesty, leavened...with bracing humor."

- Variety

"Feisty...affecting...thanks to Annie Potts' powerhouse performance"

- The Week

"An emotionally raw drama with...good laughs."

- L.A. Weekly

"A family drama in which laughter, anger, and tears are never far from the surface...an absorbing, touching, and at times downright hilarious eighty-minutes of original theater."
